Easy Chalkboard tags in 5 steps

Hey readers. I'm posting this quick tutorial on making chalkboard tags. I hope you find it helpful.

  • Wooden tags (I found mine at Michael's)
  • Chalkboard paint
  • Chalkboard Markers and/or actual chalk

 2. Paint
I used Martha Stewart's gray and black chalkboard paint. I put about 5 coats on, it dries quickly so you can do this in 2  days.

 3. On some of the tags I combined the black and gray in visible brush strokes to achieve a galvanized metal look.

 4.  The chalk marker is really fun to use. The smoother the surface, the easier it is to erase when you make a mistake or do over the writing( which I did about 50 times until it was reasonable legible)

Try combining different fonts and alternate bold, italic, serif and non-serif to achieve a modern artistic design look.

Outlining the tag pulls the words together and gives it a nice border/frame for a more finished look.
